Tough times for Xbox players: Microsoft is raising the prices of its consoles worldwide. Starting August 1, 2026, all current models will be more expensive. The company cites the significantly increased costs for memory chips as the reason. The high demand from AI data centers is responsible for this. Additionally, one model will be completely removed from the lineup.
Microsoft Raises Xbox Prices Worldwide
Microsoft is increasing the prices for all current Xbox consoles on August 1, 2026. According to the company, the costs for memory chips are rising significantly because AI data centers require ever larger quantities of the components. Therefore, the higher costs are now being passed on to buyers.
As reported by the online magazine “Golem,” models with 512 gigabytes of storage will become about $100 more expensive. Variants with 1 terabyte will cost approximately $150 more. At the same time, Microsoft is removing the Xbox Series X with 2 terabytes of storage from the program. According to Golem’s assessment, the company may have concluded internally that an even higher sales price would make this model unattractive to many players.

Prices Could Also Rise in Europe
Microsoft has not yet announced official prices for Europe. However, price changes in the U.S. are often applied to other markets as well. Therefore, it seems possible that the consoles could also become about 100 or 150 euros more expensive here.

This may not be the end of the price increases. Microsoft has already raised Xbox prices several times since 2025. According to the company’s assessment, the costs for the necessary components could double again by fall 2027. As a result, another price increase is fundamentally possible.
Not Only the Xbox Is Getting More Expensive
Microsoft is not the only one affected by rising component costs. Sony has also increased the prices for the PlayStation 5. Additionally, Nintendo plans a price adjustment for the Switch 2 starting in September 2026.
The Steam Machine has also recently sparked discussions. The console attracted attention mainly due to its unexpectedly high launch price. The trend shows that rising component costs are now affecting several manufacturers of current gaming consoles.
