PC hardware is becoming increasingly expensive, making traditional desktop gaming less accessible. Consoles like the PS5 or even the PS5 Pro can be a real alternative. Sony has recognized this and is now launching its own PlayStation monitor.

Modern consoles are now comparable to PCs in many ways. The PlayStation 5 has supported mouse and keyboard input since its launch. Unlike previous generations, more and more games are compatible with this method, as only a few titles remain truly exclusive and eventually also appear on PC. Sony apparently believes in the potential of the PlayStation to replace gaming PCs, as the new monitor impressively shows.

Solid Monitor with a Party Trick

Instead of opting for an expensive 4K panel, Sony strikes a good balance between resolution and refresh rate with the PlayStation monitor. The IPS display has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels (1440p) and supports Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) up to 120 hertz when connected to a PlayStation. With a PC or Mac, up to 240 hertz is possible. While this is far from industry-leading models that reach up to 500-600 hertz, it is more than sufficient for the performance of the PS5 and PS5 Pro.

The monitor naturally supports HDR and automatic tone mapping, which adjusts the HDR settings during setup on the PlayStation. What makes the device particularly interesting as a PlayStation accessory is the integrated charging hook for a DualSense controller. The hook can be unfolded below the screen and serves as a USB-C charging station for the PS5 controller, ensuring the DualSense is always ready and charged. However, if you want to use the monitor for work, you can simply fold the hook back in to avoid distractions.

Extensive Connectivity Options

The monitor also offers numerous connectivity options. There are two HDMI 2.1 ports available, which are VRR compatible. Additionally, there is a DisplayPort 1.4 connection. All three ports support up to 1440p resolution with a 240 hertz refresh rate. The built-in USB ports are also practical. Two of them are in the classic USB-A format, and one is in the form of USB-C. A 3.5 mm headphone jack is also available.

On the back, the PlayStation monitor offers anchor points for a VESA mount, allowing it to be attached to arms or directly to the wall. There are also integrated stereo speakers—a fallback in case the Bluetooth headset isn’t charged.

Market Launch Planned for 2026

Sony has announced the gaming monitor with PlayStation branding and DualSense charging holder for 2026. However, the console accessory is only set to be released in the U.S. and Japan. The company does not provide information on availability in other countries. More details on the market launch are expected in the coming months.
