Before heading back to Vice City, many consoles might need some tidying up. “GTA 6” is expected to require a surprisingly large amount of storage space on the PlayStation 5.
The download for “Grand Theft Auto VI,” or “GTA 6,” is expected to be around 210 gigabytes (GB) on the PlayStation 5. This information comes from the X account “PlayStation Game Size,” which regularly publishes game file sizes. However, there has been no official confirmation from developer Rockstar Games yet.
The gaming portal “Insider Gaming” claims to confirm the reported 210 GB but provides no further details. If this information proves accurate, “GTA 6” would take up roughly a quarter of the capacity on a PlayStation 5 with 825 GB of total storage. On consoles that are already quite full, other games might need to be removed.
GTA‑6 Download Could Take Several Hours
Besides storage space, download time could also become an issue. With an internet speed of 100 megabits per second, it would take approximately four hours and 40 minutes to download 210 GB. This estimate assumes the connection consistently delivers full speed. If other devices are using the connection simultaneously, it could take longer.
Fortunately, there should be enough time for the download. Pre-orders can download “GTA 6” starting at midnight local time on November 12, 2026, according to the available information. The actual sales launch follows a week later, on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Despite the preload, the game can only be played on the official release date.
Even the Game Box Contains No Disc
Buyers of the game box can also use the preload. The box will be available starting November 12, 2026, but according to Rockstar Games, it will not contain a game disc. Instead, it includes a download code. Once redeemed, “GTA 6” can be stored on the console before the release date.

Whether the reported 210 GB will be sufficient in the long term remains uncertain. Future updates could further increase storage requirements. Additional space might also be temporarily needed during installation. The size of the versions for Xbox Series X and Series S is not yet known.
