The virtual gas pedal pressed to the floor and off you go—racing games have a long tradition in the computer and video game sector, and come in many different variations.
Whether it’s a simulation or a whimsical fun racer, fast-paced gaming excitement and adrenaline-filled moments before the finish line are always guaranteed. At TECHBOOK GameZone, we present three particularly successful titles that are definitely worth a look.
Forza Horizon 5
In general, car racing involves a predetermined track that participants must navigate as quickly as possible with their vehicles. However, for many people, the car is also a symbol of freedom. So why not combine both aspects? “Forza Horizon 5” is exactly such a racing game.
Because this is not just a racer, but an open-world racing game. This means that instead of just being sent from one racetrack to the next, players can explore a vast, open game world–in this case, modeled after Mexico. Freedom is thus directly embedded in the gameplay, and virtual drivers can enjoy diverse landscapes—including jungles, deserts, valleys, and beaches. Speed enthusiasts will still find plenty of racing formats to enjoy.
“Forza Horizon 5” was well-received by the international press. On Metacritic, it aggregated an average score of 92 out of 100 points—an outstanding result.

Gran Turismo 7
The concept of exclusivity for console games seems to be slowly eroding, even at Sony. However, several renowned game series still exist only under the PlayStation banner. One of them is the racing simulation series “Gran Turismo,” which has been around since 1997 and the first PlayStation.
In 2022, “Gran Turismo 7,” the latest full installment of the series, hit the market. As befitting the flagship of the series, the seventh installment impresses with particularly realistic driving physics and detailed tracks. The authentic, licensed cars are also stylishly presented, with a sheer number to choose from, each with its own characteristics. Technically, “Gran Turismo 7” is also impressive across the board.
Critics were also enthusiastic, giving positive reviews that resulted in a score of 87 out of 100 on Metacritic.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Few multiplayer series have been as popular and successful since the ’90s as the “Mario Kart” games from Nintendo. Especially when played with friends, the imaginative races turn into chaotic events where anything is possible right up to the finish line—thanks to special items that can thoroughly mix up the field at any time. “Mario Kart” is not just for hardcore gaming nerds but is a welcome guest at parties and events.

In 2017, “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe,” an enhanced version of the eighth installment, was released just in time for the launch of the then-new Nintendo Switch. And what was already really good was made even better with new characters, items, and game modes.
“Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” is the best-selling Switch game with 68.2 million units sold—far ahead of the second-place “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” with 47.8 million sales. Unsurprisingly, the reviews were also excellent, with a score of 92. For those who value uncomplicated fun over realism, “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” remains a must-play even after the release of its successor, “Mario Kart World.”
