With Ubisoft’s Fast-Track Pass to test the new racing game “The Crew Motorfest”–it couldn’t be more fitting. So, off to the screen, headset on, controller in hand, and off we go. Ubisoft presented TECHBOOK with a gameplay demo for the third title in the racing game series at Gamescom 2023. While there’s plenty to look forward to, the sequel also has some limitations.

Motorfest offers playlists for everyone

As the name “Motorfest” suggests, the game celebrates driving. Against the backdrop of a festival, the finished game will allow for various racing events. In this regard, “The Crew Motorfest” is similar to the “Forza Horizon” series.

TECHBOOK itself was able to try out a series of so-called playlists in the demo–a kind of mini-campaign that lets players dive into different themes in car culture. The races are tailored to each theme: for example, in vintage car races, GPS and nitro boosts are absent, and in off-road jeep hunts, cross-country might be the best route.

The Crew Motorfest–a big car party in Hawaii

“Motorfest” offers tailored racing experiences for many aspects of car culture. There are playlists just for supercars, F1, EVs, vintage cars, off-road, drag racing, and even just different Lamborghini models. So there’s something for everyone.

As usual for the series, there’s an online multiplayer where players can compete against each other or just cruise together. In addition to cars, planes and boats are also available.

Unlike “The Crew 2,” the playable open world shrinks significantly. While the predecessor allowed exploration of the entire contiguous United States–meaning the U.S. without Alaska and Hawaii–Ubisoft has recreated the Hawaiian island of O’ahu in “The Crew Motorfest.” If that sounds familiar, it’s no wonder; the island was already the setting for “Test Drive Unlimited,” and many developers of that game are now at Ubisoft.

“The Crew Motorfest” is now available for pre-order starting at 69.99 euros and launches on September 14 for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. Players can carry over their vehicle collection from “The Crew 2.”
