A powerful internet connection is of little use if the Wi-Fi in your home falters. That’s why Vodafone is introducing a new premium router for demanding home networks starting at the end of August.

Vodafone will offer the Fritzbox 6690 Pro starting August 27, 2026, for all “GigaZuhause” cable plans. The router will cost 9.99 euros per month, plus a one-time shipping fee of 9.99 euros. This model replaces the previous Fritzbox 6690 Cable at Vodafone and expands the range of Wi-Fi 7 routers for cable customers.

However, the hardware is not entirely new. Fritz (formerly AVM) had already introduced the Fritzbox 6690 Pro at IFA 2025. With its launch at Vodafone, the router is now entering the provider’s cable network for the first time. A retail launch is also planned, but a specific date has yet to be announced.

What’s Behind the New Wi-Fi

The biggest difference from the previous generation is the wireless standard. The Fritzbox 6690 Pro transmits simultaneously on the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz frequency bands. The additional 6-gigahertz band is intended to provide more capacity and prevent bottlenecks when many devices are connected to the Wi-Fi at the same time.

Additionally, there is the so-called multi-link operation. This allows multiple wireless connections to be used simultaneously to transmit data more efficiently. This could particularly benefit applications that rely on low latency, such as online gaming, high-resolution streaming, or simultaneous video conferences in a home office.

Router for Internet, Telephony, and Smart Home

The Fritzbox 6690 Pro also offers modern features in terms of connections. Three gigabit LAN ports are available for wired devices. Additionally, the router has a port with up to 2.5 gigabits per second. For connection to the cable network, the device uses the DOCSIS 3.1 standard established by Vodafone.

Besides providing internet access, the Fritzbox takes on other tasks in the household. Two analog phones can be connected directly, and up to six DECT phones can be linked to the router. The device also supports the smart home standards Zigbee and Matter, allowing compatible lamps, sockets, and other networked devices to be centrally integrated.
