No more painfully slow onboard Wi-Fi: The Lufthansa Group is launching its new high-speed Internet next week. Starlink will be used–and it’s said to be even faster than some ground connections.
Starlink Takes Off with Lufthansa
A new Internet era begins next week for the Lufthansa Group. The first aircraft to take off with the new high-speed Wi-Fi will be a Lufthansa Airbus A320neo. This is made possible through a partnership with Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite Internet provider.
The connection is based on satellites in low Earth orbit and is expected to offer speeds that often exceed those of home or office Internet connections. Passengers will be able to stream videos, browse the Internet, and use cloud-based applications while on the go.

850 Aircraft to Get Turbo Wi-Fi
According to its own statements, the Lufthansa Group is planning a major rollout: By 2029, around 850 aircraft across the entire group will be equipped with the new technology. The company aims to become Europe’s largest airline group with comprehensive high-speed Internet on board.
In addition to Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, ITA Airways, Edelweiss, Discover Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Lufthansa City Airlines, and Eurowings are also preparing for the launch. The new Wi-Fi is part of the Lufthansa Group’s extensive investments in aircraft, products, and services.

Live Streams and Calls Are Off-Limits
The new “Lufthansa Group WiFi” portal is designed to provide passengers with easy Internet access. To access Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi, passengers will only need a Travel ID or their “Miles & More” service card number. The launch will begin in mid-August with an Airbus A320neo equipped with the registration D-AINM.
Clear rules apply for using the Internet on board. Those playing music or videos must use headphones. Voice and video calls are not allowed. Live streams from the aircraft are also prohibited. The Lufthansa Group aims to respect all passengers and ensure a pleasant travel experience.
