“The Devil Wears Prada” is undoubtedly still one of the most popular films of the 2000s. Currently, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is in the works. A release date has now been set.
The 2000s produced a slew of unforgettable films and series that still have many fans today. Many of today’s classics hit theaters back then, such as “Gladiator” or the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Others launched entire franchises or new (sub-)genres, including “The Fast and the Furious” or “Saw,” likely the first entry in the so-called torture porn genre. “The Devil Wears Prada” has also retained its biting charm. Now, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is in the works, and a release date has already been set.
“The Devil Wears Prada 2” Set for 2026 Release
In the summer of 2024, news first circulated that “The Devil Wears Prada 2” was in development. Disney is behind the project, and as the usually well-informed U.S. industry magazine “Variety” now reports, the studio has committed to an initial release date.
As it stands, the film is set to return to the glittering (and highly toxic) fashion world starting May 1, 2026. This is likely only the U.S. release date, as nothing is known about a German release yet. However, it’s conceivable that the comedy will be released in Germany around the same time—or even earlier.
Since Disney is producing the film, it’s also expected that “The Devil Wears Prada 2” will subsequently stream exclusively on Disney+.

What the Sequel Is About
Whether and which stars from the original will return is not officially confirmed yet. Rumor has it that Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt will be back. Stanley Tucci recently commented on the matter but didn’t reveal anything, which seems a bit suspicious. Additionally, Anne Hathaway is listed in the cast on the related IMDb entry. David Frankel, the director of the original, is also expected to return.

An initial synopsis for “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is already available: The once influential Miranda Priestly from Runway Magazine faces the decline of the traditional magazine business. In the battle for desperately needed advertising money, she must also contend with her former assistant Emily, who has since risen to become a manager at a luxury company.
