The 2000s produced a slew of unforgettable films and series that still have many fans today. Many of today’s classics hit theaters back then, such as “Gladiator” or the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Others launched entire franchises or new (sub)genres, including “The Fast and the Furious” or “Saw,” likely the first entry in the so-called torture porn genre. “The Devil Wears Prada” has also retained its biting charm. Now, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is in the works, and a release date has already been set.
“The Devil Wears Prada 2” Set for 2026 Release
In the summer of 2024, news first circulated that “The Devil Wears Prada 2” was in development. Disney is behind the project, and as the usually well-informed U.S. industry magazine “Variety” now reports, the studio has committed to an initial release date.
As it stands, the film is set to return to the glittering (and highly toxic) fashion world starting April 30, 2026. This is not only the U.S. release date but also applies to German theaters.
Since Disney is producing the film, it is also expected that “The Devil Wears Prada 2” will subsequently be available exclusively on Disney+ for streaming.

What “The Devil Wears Prada 2” Will Be About
Whether and which stars from the original will return has not been definitively confirmed. However, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt are on board again. Blunt herself confirmed this in an interview with “Entertainment Tonight,” as seen in the video:
Additionally, Anne Hathaway is listed in the cast on the IMDb entry for “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” though her appearance in the film is unclear. David Frankel, the director of the original, is also expected to return. The screenplay is by Aline Brosh McKenna.

The story will apparently not follow Lauren Weisberger’s sequel novel “Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns” from 2013 but will instead tell an independent story. An initial synopsis is already available: The once-influential Miranda Priestly of Runway Magazine faces the decline of the traditional magazine business. In the battle for desperately needed advertising dollars, she must also contend with her former assistant Emily, who has since risen to become a manager at a luxury company.
