There’s a stir in the German TV and streaming landscape, as one of the largest providers in the market has now announced comprehensive changes and strategic realignments. So, if you enjoy the offerings of ProSiebenSat.1 and Joyn, you should prepare for what’s coming.
Stronger Differentiation at ProSiebenSat.1
First and foremost, the three major channels of ProSiebenSat.1 Media, which also includes Kabel Eins, are to differentiate themselves more from each other. ProSieben is set to become the home of major entertainment, events, and sports, as reported by “Wunschliste.de.” Sat.1, on the other hand, will focus on factual content, family entertainment, and German fiction in the future.
This also means that the previous switching of “The Voice of Germany” between the two channels will be discontinued. Starting in 2027, the show will air exclusively on Sat.1. ProSieben, in turn, wants to reserve Saturdays for feature films and will no longer show any programs. The future of “Schlag den Star” is therefore uncertain. However, there will still be shows on Sunday evenings.
Tuesday evenings on Sat.1 will be transformed from crime series to factual programming. The “Jenke” reports will move from ProSieben to Sat.1 as part of this change. “Achtung Abzocke” will also move to Sat.1, but from Kabel Eins. Monday evenings will be dedicated to German series like “Kommissar Rex” or “Der letzte Bulle.”
Joyn to Showcase More Reality TV
At the same time, these changes mean that the entire lineup of U.S. primetime series will shift to Kabel Eins. Recently, viewership ratings have consistently declined, prompting a move to the smallest of the three channels.

For its in-house streaming service Joyn, the focus is clearly on expanding areas like adventure, food, reality, and factual content. This applies to both collaborations with linear channels and “Joyn Originals.” Formats with content creators like “Love Hunter” or “The Race” will be given special significance. Additionally, ZDF content will appear on Joyn starting at the end of 2026. Several technical improvements are also planned.
Fans of ProSiebenSat.1 and Joyn content can expect a lot of changes. Whether these will be successful remains to be seen.
