Deutsche Telekom has secured the broadcasting rights for the 2030 World Cup. The announcement was made Sunday evening before the final of the 2026 World Cup. This means MagentaTV will once again broadcast all the tournament’s games live.
Telekom Records for the 2026 World Cup
According to the company, the 2026 FIFA World Cup was particularly successful for MagentaTV. Rodrigo Diehl, a member of Telekom’s board responsible for the German market, said, “It was a World Cup of records for us.”
Diehl further explained, “We reached more than 200 million viewers and gained significantly more customers than expected.” The quarterfinal match between England and Norway achieved the highest viewership with eight million viewers.
Following closely were the round of 16 match between Brazil and Norway with 6.9 million viewers and the group stage match between France and Senegal with 6.5 million. During the tournament, MagentaTV featured experts such as Jürgen Klopp, Thomas Müller, and Mats Hummels.

2030 World Cup on Three Continents
The 2030 FIFA World Cup marks the 100th anniversary of the competition. The tournament will take place from June 8 to July 21 and will be held on three continents for the first time.
The host countries are set to be Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. It has yet to be decided whether 48 or 64 teams will participate. Depending on the number of teams, either 104 or 128 matches will be played.
More Soccer Rights for MagentaTV
With the new contract, MagentaTV is further expanding its soccer offerings. The platform has already broadcast the 2022 and 2026 World Cups as well as the 2021 and 2024 European Championships.
The rights to the 2028 European Championship have also been secured. This is based on an agreement with ARD and ZDF, who share their rights with Telekom under a sublicense. MagentaTV will broadcast all 51 matches of the tournament, 17 of which will be exclusive.
Arnim Butzen, Telekom’s head of TV, said, “We remain on the ball.” He further explained, “With Euro 2028 and now the 2030 World Cup, we have the next two major soccer events in the MagentaTV program. Once again with numerous exclusive games and top-quality coverage. We are consistently developing our soccer concept and will continue to surprise with MagentaTV at the next major tournaments.”
