As if film and series fans weren’t already dealing with too many streaming providers and having to chase after their favorite titles. Occasionally, the companies behind them also decide to raise prices, which adds to the frustration. Now Disney+ is getting more expensive—again.
Disney+ Prices Increase in the U.S.
This is now reported by the U.S. industry magazine “Variety.” According to them, most prices for Hulu, ESPN Select, and Disney+ in the United States are going up. The new rates take effect on October 21, 2025. The prices will change as follows.
- Disney+ with ads: $11.99/month (instead of $9.99)
Disney+ Premium without ads: $18.99/month (instead of $15.99) - Hulu with ads: $11.99/month (instead of $9.99)
- ESPN Select: $12.99/month (instead of $11.99)
Furthermore, prices are increasing for various packages that combine multiple streaming services, including Disney’s own platforms (Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN) and occasionally Warner’s competitor HBO Max.

When Will the Price Increase Come to Germany?
Disney has confirmed to TECHBOOK that the price increase is also coming to Germany. Initially, new customers can still get the first three months at a special offer price until September 27. Afterward, the prices for these subscriptions will automatically change to the currently valid rates. These remain until cancellation. So if you want to get ahead of the price increase, you should quickly sign up for a subscription now.
Starting October 1, 2025, new customers will have to pay the higher prices. These will change as follows:
- Disney+ with ads: €6.99/month (instead of €5.99)
- Disney+ Standard without ads: €10.99/month (instead of €9.99)
- Disney+ Premium: €15.99/month (instead of €13.99)
For new customers in Germany, the new rates will take effect significantly earlier than in the U.S.
Bad Timing for Disney
The other rate changes for Hulu and ESPN Select are of no interest to customers in Germany. Hulu, as a standalone brand, does not exist in Germany; only selected content has appeared directly on Disney+. Additionally, Disney plans to fully integrate the Hulu app into the Disney streaming service. The sports service, meanwhile, is only accessible with a VPN. We recommend the test winner NordVPN.
For Disney, the announcement of the price increases comes at the worst possible time. The company has recently faced heavy criticism for its decision to indefinitely suspend the popular late-night show by Jimmy Kimmel. Kimmel had commented on the attack on political activist Charlie Kirk, and shortly thereafter, some episodes were pulled. Many Hollywood celebrities expressed their intention to cancel their Disney+ subscriptions and urged others to do the same.
Kimmel is back on air, but the announcement of higher prices in this heated political and social climate could further anger many. It likely won’t matter that the new rates were planned before the Kimmel controversy.
