Amazon Music Unlimited is expanding its offerings in Germany. Subscribers who have signed up for the music service can now access one audiobook from the Audible catalog each month—in addition to music and podcasts.
Amazon has adjusted its services several times over the past months—often to the detriment of users. For instance, Music Unlimited in the U.S. became more expensive this year, and the Prime-included access was restricted as early as 2022. However, Amazon has now announced a change that benefits customers. Users of Amazon Music Unlimited in Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan, and Brazil can now listen to one Audible audiobook per month at no extra cost.
Amazon Music Unlimited Grows Into a Complete Offering
The adjustment in the mentioned countries follows a test phase in the U.S., UK, Canada, France, Australia, and New Zealand. It affects both individual subscribers and primary users of family memberships. As Amazon told TECHBOOK, the company is responding to many users’ desire to combine music, podcasts, and audiobooks into a single service by integrating the new offering into Music Unlimited. Audible’s catalog currently includes over 900,000 titles worldwide, with around 91,000 in German.
However, there’s a small catch: Subscribers can only listen to one audiobook of their choice each month. The length of the chosen audiobook doesn’t matter, and it can be finished beyond the billing period. The selection of available titles ranges from classics to bestsellers to exclusive Audible productions. These include Fitzek’s “Der Insasse: Das Hörspiel,” the new Panem episode “Die Tribute von Panem L. Der Tag bricht an,” or “Moriarty,” narrated by well-known German speakers.

Audible also announced an English-language reissue of the original stories from the “Harry Potter” universe. The productions planned for late 2025 will feature Dolby Atmos, elaborate music, numerous voice roles, and realistic sound recordings.
Spotify Also Offers Access to Audiobooks
Music Unlimited is Amazon’s most expensive but also most comprehensive music subscription. The provider charges 10.99 euros per month for individual access without a Prime subscription and 9.99 euros for customers with a Prime subscription. New customers can try the service for free for four months if ordered by July 14, 2025. Those who want to listen to more than one audiobook per month must subscribe to Audible for 9.95 euros per month or purchase individual titles.
Nevertheless, compared to competitor Spotify, the Amazon offering is significantly more attractive. Since April, Spotify has offered access to audiobooks through its Premium subscription in Germany. However, the catalog is smaller than Audible’s, with around 350,000 titles. There’s another limitation: Unlike Amazon, Spotify Premium subscribers are only allowed 12 hours of listening time per month. Those who want to listen more must purchase an additional package for 9.99 euros, each providing 10 hours of listening time.
