In and of itself, the subscription to Amazon Prime still sounds like a good deal: You save on many shipping costs, and on top of that, there are extensive streaming offerings such as Prime Video or Prime Music. However, in recent years, customers have had to endure drawbacks like higher prices. Now, Amazon is also introducing ads for Prime Music.
Customer Emails Inform About Ads on Prime Music
Prime users in India are currently reporting that they have received a notification from Amazon via email. It states that starting July 2, 2026, ads will be introduced on Prime Music. Additionally, the option for downloads will disappear entirely.
Those who want to continue listening to music unlimited and ad-free, and also offline, should switch to the paid subscription of Amazon Music Unlimited. Prime members get it cheaper than those without a Prime subscription. The company advertises that the streaming service now also offers music in HD quality and with 3D audio.
Ads on Prime Music Also in Germany?
With the introduction of ads on Prime Music, Amazon continues what it has already started with Prime Video. There, too, commercials were introduced as standard, and those who want to stream without them have to pay extra. This and general price increases have already led to class-action lawsuits here. The removal of the download function seems like a mere formality, as it was previously limited to only certain predefined playlists.

It is not yet known if and when the ads on Prime Music will also come to Germany. TECHBOOK has made an inquiry to Amazon but has not received any usable response regarding this. However, since Prime Video already contains ads, it is at least likely that Prime Music will also be affected in the foreseeable future.
