With the new “ZDF Channels,” ZDF is expanding its streaming portal with an additional offering. The new channels can be found in the “Live & TV” section and cover various topics. According to ZDF, more than 15 channels are available at launch. The content runs continuously without ads, combining elements of traditional television with the capabilities of a streaming service.

New Feature Aims to Simplify Show Search

The ZDF Channels are primarily designed to make discovering content easier. Instead of searching for individual shows, users select a themed channel and follow the ongoing program. An algorithm compiles new content from the broadcaster’s archive daily.

This means users don’t have to click through the entire offering. Within a channel, one program follows another directly. At the same time, users can switch to other topics or skip individual content.

More on the topic

More Than 15 Channels Available at Launch

At launch, the offering includes over 15 themed channels. Each channel focuses on specific content, including crime dramas, nature documentaries, and romantic films.

Additionally, ZDF offers its own channel for “Bares für Rares,” where the show with Horst Lichter runs in a continuous loop. Other channels focus on “Terra X,” comedy and satire, world history, dream destinations, famous people, or mountain worlds.

Use Without Registration Possible

No additional registration is required to use the ZDF Channels. The offering is directly available on the broadcaster’s streaming portal and incurs no additional costs.

“With the new ZDF Channels, we make discovering our content even easier,” says Tina Kutscher, Head of User Products in the ZDF Audience Directorate. “Users can be inspired and stream many contents on their favorite topics in lean-back mode.” The concept is reminiscent of so-called FAST channels, such as those offered by Amazon.
