For years, there have been reports and rumors about a movie adaptation of the cult series “Knight Rider.” A new rumor is particularly intriguing: supposedly, reboots of “Knight Rider,” “Airwolf,” and “The Six Million Dollar Man” are in the works.
Reboots of “Knight Rider” and More to Form a Universe
First, a warning: The following information is still just rumors. Therefore, it should be taken with caution. While the “Tachyo Pulse Podcast” claims to have exclusive insider info, such rumors often turn out to be only partially true over time. Nonetheless, the ideas for reboots of “Knight Rider” and other titles are plausible.
Recently, there was news that a “Knight Rider” film by the creators of “Cobra Kai” is planned. But that’s not all. In fact, the new adaptation of the cult material is supposed to be the starting point for a shared narrative universe, including the 80s series “Airwolf” and the 70s title “The Six Million Dollar Man.” This means all three previously separate series will soon exist in a shared world, similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Iron Man, Captain America, and others.
First a Film, Then Series, Then Another Film?
The idea reportedly originated during the 2023 Hollywood writers’ strike at Universal, as the studio holds the rights to all three series. Now, the “Cobra Kai” creative team, consisting of Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald, is set to advance the concept.
The “Knight Rider” reboot will lead the charge. First, a feature film is to be made. If successful, a ten-part series is planned, which will then spawn spin-offs in the form of new “Airwolf” and “Six Million Dollar Man” series. These will work toward a major crossover film, bringing all three titles together—similar to the “Avengers.”

AI at the Center of the Plot
To ensure the reboots of “Knight Rider,” “Airwolf,” and “The Six Million Dollar Man” fit well together, they are to be narratively linked by a common AI thread. The talking car K.I.T.T., the Airwolf helicopter, and the bionic body upgrades in “The Six Million Dollar Man” Steve Austin are reportedly all using similar AI systems.

This would pave the way for a shared villain within the world of artificial intelligence. The execution could be both grounded and futuristic.
Cinema or Streaming?
There are no official details yet. According to the rumor, Universal might skip a theatrical release and instead start with the “Knight Rider” reboot directly as a stream. In the U.S., the film could land on Peacock, while internationally, Netflix would handle the rights.
In that case, the projects would appear exclusively there. When the “Knight Rider” reboot will be released is not officially known. However, it is expected to be launched no earlier than spring 2027.
