Despite fantasy, fiction, and detachment from reality, films and series ultimately reflect reality, with human or anthropomorphized characters and familiar themes and plots. This includes conflicts and dramas, hate or love. And where there is love, there is at least kissing–or much more. Sex scenes have long been common, but they are not to everyone’s taste. This has now gone so far that Angel Studios has completely banned them.
Angel Studios Are Christian-Inspired
Angel Studios is not a typical film production company and has little in common with Hollywood giants like Paramount, Warner, or Disney. Founded in 2021, the company is also very young and operates commercially in a much smaller league.
Nevertheless, they have already celebrated some international successes, such as with the controversially discussed “Sound of Freedom,” whose participants openly spoke about their belief in QAnon conspiracy theories. Most recently, the action-comedy “Runner,” featuring Hollywood stars Alan Ritchson (Amazon’s “Reacher” series) and Owen Wilson (“Midnight in Paris”), also premiered in German cinemas to positive reviews.
Angel Studios describes its content as “values-based entertainment,” which includes stories of Christian faith, but not exclusively. Notably, several titles feature faith as a theme, including the Jesus series “The Chosen.”

No Sex and No Swearing at Angel Studios
Compared to the distinctly left-leaning Hollywood, Angel Studios’ projects have a noticeably right-conservative slant. Against this backdrop, their new rulebook seems like a consistent testament to this. As studio co-founder Jeff Harmon reports in an interview with “Fox News,” the company has imposed a ban on sex scenes, nudity, profanity, and blasphemous expressions–or as they put it, the “misuse of God’s name.”
Harmon emphasizes that the best craftsmen and storytellers in the industry work in the dream factory. However, he notes that Hollywood lives in a bubble, increasingly distancing itself from its original audience and their values. This is why they have made this pledge.
Audience Has a Say
Furthermore, Angel Studios grants its approximately three million paying members significant input in new projects. They can vote on films and TV series to ensure majority support. Each project must receive a member rating of at least 70 percent to be considered by Angel Studios.

They particularly seek the support of families. With the new rules, they also aim to define standards that will outlast “every single film, filmmaker, or manager.”
