For many years, video game adaptations were mocked and considered box office poison, but recently they have improved both in quality and commercial success. Hits like “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” and the latest “Resident Evil” adaptation impressively demonstrate the enormous potential of such material. With “Cyberpunk 2077,” this success story is set to continue.
“Transformers” Producer to Make “Cyberpunk 2077” Film
This is now evident from a report by the U.S. industry magazine “Variety.” According to the report, the mega-million seller “Cyberpunk 2077” is set to receive a film adaptation. With producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, there is already a significant personnel announcement.
Di Bonaventura has been responsible for numerous blockbusters in his career, including Michael Bay’s “Transformers” films and the two “The Meg” movies with Jason Statham. His resume also includes two poorly received “Doom” adaptations–one can only hope he has better luck with “Cyberpunk 2077.”

Will Keanu Reeves Participate?
The Polish development studio CD Projekt Red is also on board as a producer for the project. Further background information, especially regarding stars and direction, is still missing. Therefore, it remains entirely unclear whether Keanu Reeves will take on a significant role.
It would certainly be desirable and logical, as the star lent his voice and likeness to the central character Johnny Silverhand in the game.
In the game, Silverhand is embedded in a biochip implanted in the main and player character V, causing Johnny to repeatedly appear and speak to V. Together, they work to separate their consciences while also taking on the evil corporation Arasaka.
Not the First “Cyberpunk 2077” Adaptation
This is not the first time the game has been adapted. In addition to comics, a book, and even a card game, Netflix released an animated series titled “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,” which will enter its second season at the end of October 2026.
When the film will be released is unknown, and it is still too early to say. With 40 million units sold, the game is undoubtedly one of the most successful of this decade–despite the fact that its launch was marred by numerous technical issues, leading to significant controversy.
