The Netflix series “Adolescence” is the big surprise hit of 2025 in streaming. Few titles have sparked more conversation among fans in the first half of the year than its four episodes. And the success continues, as “Adolescence” has now made history at the Emmys.
“Adolescence” Sets New Record at Emmys
Last Sunday, the prestigious Primetime Emmys were held in the U.S. The award, alongside the Golden Globes, is one of the most important for the TV and series industry—a win here is akin to a knighthood, similar to the Oscars for films. Netflix was also present and caused a stir with “Adolescence” at the Emmys.
As reported by industry magazine “The Hollywood Reporter,” Owen Cooper won an award for best supporting actor in a limited or anthology series. At just 15 years old, he is the youngest male Emmy winner in an acting category ever.
This broke a record at the Emmys that had stood since 1973, when Scott Jacoby won a prize at age 16 for “The Certain Summer.”
More Awards for “Adolescence” at Emmys
Cooper’s win is not the only one for the Netflix hit series. In total, the stars and creators of the series took the stage six times to accept a statue. Additionally, there were two more awards at the so-called Creative Arts Emmys for the more technical categories.
This brings “Adolescence” to a total of eight awards:
- Best Miniseries or Anthology Series – “Adolescence”
- Best Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie – Stephen Graham
- Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie – Owen Cooper
- Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Television Movie – Erin Doherty
- Best Directing for a Miniseries or Television Movie – Philip Barantini
- Best Writing for a Miniseries or Television Movie – Jack Thorne & Stephen Graham
- Best Casting for a Miniseries or Television Movie – Shaheen Baig
- Best Cinematography for a Miniseries or Television Movie – Matthew Lewis

The Emmys are the crowning achievement of an unprecedented success story that no one anticipated. Shortly after its release, “Adolescence” shot to the top of the Netflix charts and stayed there. It is now the second most-watched series of all time on Netflix, behind the first season of “Wednesday.” In doing so, it surpassed major titles like “Stranger Things” and “Bridgerton.”
As a so-called limited series (also known as a miniseries), “Adolescence” is self-contained. Therefore, no sequel is expected.
