There aren’t many series that are still running successfully after more than 20 years. One of them is “Navy CIS,” or simply “NCIS.” Since 2003, the cases of the titular “Naval Criminal Investigative Service” have provided plenty of excitement on television. Over the years, several equally successful spin-offs have been added, and it seems neither networks nor fans can get enough. Now, “NCIS: New York” has been confirmed as another spin-off.
“NCIS: New York” Confirmed with 2 Stars
This is now reported by the U.S. industry magazine “Variety.” According to them, the American broadcaster CBS has given the green light for the new series in the “NCIS” universe. It’s called “NCIS: New York” and, as the title suggests, will be set in the Big Apple.
Two main actors have also already been found: LL Cool J and Scott Caan. For the rap star, this marks a return to the familiar franchise. Previously, Cool J (real name James Todd Smith) played Sam Hanna in all 14 seasons of “NCIS: Los Angeles” from 2009 to 2023. He also made appearances in the original series and in “NCIS: Hawai’i.” More guest appearances are already planned.
Details Are Scarce
For “NCIS: New York,” Smith will again play Sam Hanna. Alongside him, Caan will portray an entirely new character. Caan is no stranger to crime fans, having appeared in all ten seasons of “Hawaii Five-0.” He even had a guest appearance in “NCIS: Los Angeles” during a crossover with “Hawaii Five-0.”

Byron Balasco (“Kingdom,” “Without a Trace”) will serve as showrunner. The pilot episode is penned by Scott Gemmill, who has worked as a writer on all seasons of “NCIS: Los Angeles” and was even the showrunner for seven seasons. He is currently enjoying great success with “The Pitt.”
Details about specific content and additional stars are currently unavailable. For CBS, however, the project within the “NCIS” brand is a priority. They are prioritizing “New York” over a potential second season of “NCIS: Tony & Ziva,” which was canceled after just one season, causing an outcry among fans.
