Are they masterpieces of cinema? Certainly not. But between 1997 and 2002, the three “Austin Powers” films managed to make a global audience laugh so much that they are now considered cult classics fondly remembered. And it seems fans can now look forward to “Austin Powers 4.”
At least that’s according to a report from the U.S. industry magazine “Variety.” It states that “Austin Powers” lead actor Mike Myers recently appeared on a World Cup show hosted by well-known talk show host Trevor Noah. During the show, fans could also ask questions to the gathered celebrities.
When a fan specifically asked if there would ever be an “Austin Powers 4,” Myers responded with a brief and concise “Yes!” Noah then commented on the speed of the response: “Wow, that was a quick ‘Yes.'”
“Austin Powers 4” Remains Nebulous
Myers’ quick and convincing answer at least suggests that the project is indeed in the works. However, the 63-year-old did not provide any further details and left it at that one answer. Therefore, if anything, only speculation remains at this point.
One can at least assume that Myers will be extensively involved again. After all, “Austin Powers” is his brainchild, as he not only created and played the character but was also significantly involved in the success of the previous trilogy as a screenwriter and producer.
What Could “Austin Powers 4” Be About?
Details about the content are nonexistent. However, Myers has repeatedly expressed interest in “Austin Powers 4” over the past ten years and emphasized in 2024 that there are definitely more stories to tell. And as early as 2019, he reportedly said that a sequel should be told from Dr. Evil’s perspective. Whether they will stick to that remains to be seen. It could mean that the title character takes a backseat in the fourth installment, with the villain stepping into the spotlight.
However, it may be several years before the new film is released. Until then, fans can rewatch the previous installments. Currently, they are all available on HBO Max.
