A successful streaming service scores with a selection of movies and series, where many providers balance licensed titles and exclusive (in-house) productions. The latter, in particular, are meant to attract as many new subscribers as possible. Netflix has excelled in this regard and is the sole home of series hits like “Stranger Things” or “Squid Game,” as well as cinematic milestones like “Roma” or “The Irishman.” With “Possible Love,” the provider may have outdone itself.

But what is the South Korean drama about? As part of a documentary film project, the paths of two married couples cross, whose life realities could hardly be more different. While one man, after his dismissal, tries to cope with the new everyday life with his wife, the filming couple also faces unresolved issues.

Fantastic Reactions to “Possible Love”
“Possible Love” is the new directorial work by Lee Chang-Dong, who previously garnered much attention with “Burning.” His latest work premiered at the Venice Film Festival to an almost frenzied media response. For Christoph Petersen of “Filmstarts,” it is nothing less than “the best Netflix original film ever!” The corresponding review awarded it the highest rating of 5 stars.
This is not an isolated case, as international praise is also abundant. On Metacritic, for example, the average score from all reviews is 96 out of 100. So far, only the multi-Oscar-winning “Roma” has achieved this, while “The Irishman” and “Marriage Story” are just behind with 94 points.
On Rotten Tomatoes, 100 percent of all reviews are positive. The sample size may still be quite small, and so far, hardly anyone outside the trade press and a few lucky festival-goers has seen the film. But it is already becoming apparent that “Possible Love” is nothing less than a masterpiece.

Big Screen, Probably Not in Theaters
“Possible Love” is still making the rounds at various international film festivals. Subsequently, the film is set to hit theaters for a short time in select markets, such as South Korea, Japan, or the U.S. This is not unusual, as Netflix films regularly appear on the big screen to qualify for awards like the Oscars.
As for a German theatrical release, nothing is known at this time. Instead, it currently looks like the work will be available for streaming on Netflix starting November 6, 2026. It remains to be seen if anything will change by then.
