Movies and TV shows serve most people as an escape from everyday life, while the stars in front of the camera are primarily just doing their paid work. However, that doesn’t mean they can’t contain useful ideas, tips, and tricks that one can extract for themselves. The multiple Oscar-nominated U.S. actress Amy Adams recalled a simple guideline in an emergency that turned out to be life-saving.
Amy Adams Saved Victim of Knife Attack
The 52-year-old shared the story some time ago on the “Smartless” podcast with her actor colleagues Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett. She recalled a day when she and her family were just leaving their favorite restaurant when they suddenly heard screams.
“They were shouting, ‘He’s dying!’ And my husband said, ‘That’s blood!'” the star said. As it turned out, the person had suffered a stab wound to their neck, and Adams’ family happened to be the first group of people the victim encountered. The man was bleeding, and his friends were beside themselves. Adams and her father rushed to help while her husband stayed with their daughter.
She felt “very focused” as she began applying pressure to the wound with beach towels to stop the bleeding. Then she told the victim, “The more you move, the faster you’ll bleed. Just lie down.”
Important Advice from “Dr. Vegas”
She learned this exact advice from her role as nurse Alice Doherty in the series “Dr. Vegas.” A year after the incident, she happened to see the man again in a restaurant, and he approached her about it.
“Dr. Vegas” was a very short-lived series produced in 2004. It only had a ten-episode season, initially airing only half on television. After five episodes, it was canceled, and the complete series was later released only in Ireland and the United Kingdom. Alongside Adams, the cast included Rob Lowe, Sarah Lancaster, Joe Pantoliano, and Tom Sizemore.

“Dr. Vegas” never made it to German television and is currently (as of September 7, 2026) not available on any streaming service in Germany. So, it never played an important role in the entertainment industry–but it did help save a life. That’s something.
