More than eleven years after the series finale, “Glee” is making a comeback. Disney+ and Hulu have officially ordered the reboot, which will feature some familiar faces.
From 2009 to 2015, “Glee” was one of the defining musical series on television. For six seasons, the show followed the New Directions show choir and its members through their school life at the fictional McKinley High School. Now it’s confirmed that the story will continue. Disney+ and Hulu have given the green light for a new “Glee” series.
However, Disney is keeping many details under wraps. There are no official announcements regarding the plot, cast, or premiere date. It is known that 20th Television, the studio behind the original, is producing the reboot. This leaves it open for now how closely the new series will tie into the previous six seasons.
Original Creators Involved Again
Behind the scenes, the project is already taking more concrete shape. Series creator Ryan Murphy, along with Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, has written a script for the return. The trio also developed the original series. Murphy also told “Entertainment Tonight” that he has contacted about ten members of the original cast. They were very enthusiastic about the idea.

Who will ultimately return in front of the camera remains largely open. However, there is now clarity regarding at least one central character. As “Variety” reports, citing multiple sources, Lea Michele will return as Rachel Berry. The actress was part of the core cast throughout all six seasons and had previously expressed interest in a comeback.
More Familiar Characters Could Follow
Michele might not be the only one returning. Heather Morris and Chord Overstreet posted on social media, which, according to “Variety,” suggests a reunion as Brittany Pierce and Sam Evans. Unlike Michele’s return, their comebacks have not yet been similarly confirmed.
That Disney is bringing the series back more than eleven years after the finale is not entirely surprising. “Glee” remains present long after its end. According to “Variety,” the show’s music reaches an average of 4.1 million monthly listeners on Spotify. When the reboot will premiere on Disney+ and Hulu and which other original cast members will return remains to be seen.
