Since 2022, there have been indications of a planned series adaptation of the fantasy book series “Eragon.” After a long period without concrete news, it now seems that the project is indeed progressing at Disney+.
The book series about the dragon rider Eragon has been one of the most popular fantasy sagas for years. However, the 2006 film adaptation failed to replicate this success and is still considered a disappointment. Interest was high when it was first announced in 2022 that Disney+ was planning a new adaptation of the book series—this time as a series. The project remained quiet for a long time, but according to a report from “Variety,” a lot seems to be happening behind the scenes.
Experienced Showrunners Take on “Eragon”
According to the U.S. trade magazine, citing insiders, an experienced creative team is now in place. Todd Harthan and Todd Helbing are set to serve as showrunners. Harthan was previously involved in series such as “Psych” and “Rosewood,” while Helbing is best known for his work on “The Flash” and “Superman & Lois.”
Together, they are expected to adapt the entire book series by Christopher Paolini, known as the Inheritance Cycle, which consists of four volumes, into a series. Paolini himself is also involved and will serve as an executive producer—a point likely to resonate positively with fans, as the author has previously distanced himself from the film version.
Other Prominent Names
In addition to Harthan, Helbing, and Paolini, producers Bert Salke and Rachel Moore are also part of the project. Director Marc Webb is also involved as a producer. Webb, who directed the “The Amazing Spider-Man” films, is expected to bring creative input to the series.
While an official confirmation from Disney+ is still pending, as are details about the cast or premiere date, the newly revealed team composition is seen as a strong signal that the “Eragon” series is taking shape. However, a series launch in the near future is still not expected.
