“The Jetsons” is an iconic series due to its visionary portrayal of modern technologies. Now, a live-action adaptation is reportedly in the works.
In 1962, the animated series “The Jetsons” first aired in the U.S. This series, depicting the life of a futuristic family, became a worldwide success over the years. Two more seasons followed in 1985, and a movie was released in 1990. Now, Warner Bros. is planning a comeback for the Jetsons—this time as a live-action film.
Jim Carrey in Talks for Lead Role
According to a report from “Variety,” Warner Bros. is in discussions with superstar Jim Carrey (“The Truman Show”) for the role of George Jetson. Colin Trevorrow is set to direct and co-write the screenplay with Joe Epstein. However, there are no concrete commitments from Carrey, Trevorrow, or Epstein yet, leaving the project uncertain.
Colin Trevorrow is known for his work on “Jurassic World Dominion.” Whether the screenplay and casting will meet the expectations of those involved remains unclear. It remains to be seen if the live-action adaptation will actually be realized.
Previous Attempts at a Live-Action Adaptation
As early as 2003, there were plans for a “The Jetsons” live-action film, which were never realized. Attempts in 2007 and 2017 to produce a computer-animated version also failed. The cult status of “The Jetsons” is also based on its visionary ideas like flat-screen TVs and video chats, which are now a reality.
