Since the first “Iron Man” film in 2008 and the launch of the MCU, comic book adaptations have become indispensable in film and television. Among the most popular characters is undoubtedly Spider-Man, whose adventures, both animated and live-action, have been box office hits. However, even the storytelling universe of Spider-Men is not immune to missteps. For instance, Amazon Prime Video has canceled the series “Spider-Noir” after just one season.
Amazon ends “Spider-Noir”
This was reported by the U.S. industry magazine “Variety.” According to the report, after the first–and only–eight episodes, it’s the end for Nicolas Cage in his first regular series role. There will be no second season.
Spider-Man himself is not the focus in “Spider-Noir.” Instead, it centers on Spider-Man Noir, who works as a private detective fighting crime in 1930s New York while battling his own demons. The character became known to a wider audience through appearances in the animated films “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse.”
It wasn’t due to quality
Why Amazon Prime Video decided to cancel “Spider-Noir” after just one season is unknown. According to the report, the first six weeks after its release saw an impressive 2.6 billion streaming minutes, indicating strong interest. Both fan and critic reactions have been excellent.
On Rotten Tomatoes, for example, 92 percent of all considered professional reviews are positive, and 89 percent of all fan ratings are as well–both outstanding results. Additionally, the series is nominated for a staggering 11 Emmys, mainly in technical categories. So, the cancellation cannot be attributed to the series’ pure quality.

Fans of Spider-Man in general will still be regularly treated to new films and series in the future. “Spider-Noir” is the first series to emerge from a pact between Sony and Amazon. A second is already in development, and an official announcement is expected very soon.
