Today, if you want to watch a movie, you don’t necessarily have to rush to the theater. Release windows are shorter than ever, and it usually doesn’t take long before a title can be purchased digitally or appear in a streaming subscription. However, those wanting to stream “Project Hail Mary” will have to wait a bit longer.
Those Wanting to Stream “Project Hail Mary” Must Wait
“Project Hail Mary” is not only one of the biggest films of 2026 but also the most successful Amazon blockbuster of all time—and by a wide margin. This space adventure starring Ryan Gosling will continue to expand its lead.
Anyone wanting to stream “Project Hail Mary” will have to wait longer than is typically the case today. Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have announced that their film will remain exclusively in theaters longer than initially planned. “This is a film that needs to be seen on the big screen,” Miller stated in a new post on X (formerly Twitter).
“Project Hail Mary” Bigger Than Ever
At the same time, the filmmakers announced that “Project Hail Mary” will also be released in a special version in theaters. For just one week, fans can book tickets for analog IMAX screenings on 70mm film—typically reserved for the most prestigious works of the biggest directors. “It’s an experience to share with others,” Miller said.
Whether Amazon plans such screenings in Germany is still unknown. TECHBOOK has inquired with Amazon but has not yet received a response. Even in its regular version, “Project Hail Mary” is the Amazon film of the year, in my opinion. Movie fans worldwide have reason to hope, as recently other major studios like Paramount and Universal have promised to keep films exclusively in theaters longer before they appear as streams.
