The series “The Queen’s Gambit” was a huge hit for Netflix in 2020. Despite its enormous success, there is no sequel. A tweet from the lead actress recently raised fans’ hopes. Unfortunately, it was something entirely different than the announcement of a new season.
In the fall of 2020, it was THE (surprise) hit on Netflix and suddenly brought chess back into fashion worldwide. Of course, we’re talking about the series “The Queen’s Gambit.” It is based on the novel of the same name by Walter Tevis and tells the story of chess prodigy Beth Harmon, who stands out as one of the few women in a male-dominated sport. The novel’s story is essentially told in the seven episodes of the first season–essentially. Because yesterday, a tweet from lead actress Anya Taylor-Joy caused quite a stir, suggesting a second season of “The Queen’s Gambit.”
Surprising Announcement for “The Queen’s Gambit” Season 2?
It’s not unusual for new series and seasons to be announced by the actors. Recently, Netflix announced via video with actress Jenna Ortega that the hit series “Wednesday” would get a sequel. Accordingly, Anya Taylor-Joy’s tweet could be taken seriously, especially since the actress is now a well-known face in Hollywood. The tweet didn’t say much, just the words “The Queen’s Gambit 2,” which is the English title of the series.
Fans could suddenly hope for a sequel, but not for long. Via Instagram, Taylor-Joy soon announced that her Twitter account had been hacked and that it was a fake.

Anya Taylor-Joy Is a Victim of a Hacking Attack
Apparently, someone gained access to the Hollywood star’s account. Hacking attacks like this happen repeatedly and sometimes have very unpleasant consequences for those affected, as the nude photo scandal of 2014 shows. Fortunately, this case seems different. Looking at Anya Taylor-Joy’s corresponding Instagram story, the actress seems to take it with humor.

Her fans mostly find the action rather amusing. However, many are also somewhat disappointed and would have liked to see a second season of “The Queen’s Gambit.” Thus, it apparently remains a miniseries.
What “The Queen’s Gambit” Is About
The Netflix hit is based, as mentioned earlier, on the novel “The Queen’s Gambit” by American author Walter Tevis from 1983. Tevis’s works had been adapted into films before “The Queen’s Gambit”–sometimes very successfully. Notable examples include “The Man Who Fell to Earth” starring superstar David Bowie and “The Color of Money” with Tom Cruise, Forest Whitaker, and Paul Newman. An interesting fact: Until the success of the Netflix series “The Queen’s Gambit,” the novel had not been translated into German.
The story follows Elizabeth “Beth” Harmon (played by Anya Taylor-Joy). Beth grows up in an orphanage in Kentucky in the 1950s. Through the home’s janitor (Bill Camp), she discovers chess and quickly shows an enormous talent for it. From then on, she must continually prove herself as a woman in a male-dominated field. Additionally, Beth struggles with her addiction to alcohol and medication, acquired in the orphanage. She always pursues the goal of becoming a world champion.
