The comedy “Clueless” was one of the successful films of the 1990s. More than 30 years later, the story is getting a sequel. Paramount+ has announced a new series version. Alicia Silverstone will reprise her lead role. Filming is set to begin next year in Los Angeles.
In the film, Silverstone played the wealthy student Cher Horowitz from Beverly Hills. Shopping, parties, and fashion dominated her daily life. She also aimed to give her new classmate Tai a makeover. Over the course of the story, Cher develops feelings for her stepbrother Josh.
The new series picks up three decades after the events of the film. Cher is now a businesswoman and mother of a teenage daughter. In addition to her role in front of the camera, Silverstone is also working as an executive producer on the project.
Familiar Names Behind the Production
Amy Heckerling, who directed “Clueless,” is also part of the production team for the sequel. Additionally, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are involved as screenwriters. Both are known for the series “Gossip Girl.”
As reported by the industry magazine “Variety,” filming is set to begin next year in Los Angeles. With the combination of familiar characters and experienced creatives, Paramount+ is banking on the return of a classic film.

“Clueless” was added to the official U.S. film registry in January. Since 1989, the National Library in Washington has selected films each year, deeming them culturally, historically, or artistically significant, and subsequently adding them to the registry.
For Alicia Silverstone, the film marked her breakthrough in Hollywood. She later appeared in productions such as “Batman & Robin,” “The Killing of a Sacred Deer,” “Book Club,” and “Bugonia.” Now, she returns to the new series, revisiting the role that significantly boosted her career in the 1990s.
