Reboots are trending in Hollywood, and it doesn’t matter whether it’s a reboot or a remake. Amid the current wave of new announcements, Netflix plans to dust off the police series “T.J. Hooker.”
Netflix Secures “T.J. Hooker” Rights
This is now reported by the usually well-informed U.S. trade magazine “Variety.” According to them, the rights to “T.J. Hooker” have recently been secured for Netflix to produce a new film. The original series ran from 1982 to 1986 for five seasons and 90 episodes. It was then seen on German TV starting in 1987.
The new Netflix project for “T.J. Hooker” is not the first time the material has been adapted into a film. In fact, the U.S. network CBS produced a two-hour TV movie in the mid-1980s that accompanied the end of the series. The main roles were played by “Star Trek” star William Shatner as the titular Thomas Jefferson “T.J.” Hooker, Adrian Zmed as Vince Romano, and Heather Locklear as Stacy Sheridan, who replaced April Clough after the first season.
William Shatner Could Return
Many specific details about the “T.J. Hooker” film on Netflix are not yet known. Screenwriters Jarrad Paul and Andy Mogel, who worked on “Yes Man” with Jim Carrey, are involved. Currently, they are primarily engaged with the streaming service, where they serve as showrunners for “Free Bert.”

There are no details about the plot. However, it is expected to again focus on a police team solving various cases. Unlike the original, Netflix plans for “T.J. Hooker” to have a comedic tone that will also reach the meta-level.
According to the report, discussions have already begun with William Shatner, with the expectation that the 94-year-old will be involved in some form. However, it is unclear whether Shatner will remain behind the scenes or make guest appearances on camera. There is currently no release date for the new “T.J. Hooker” film on Netflix.
