A successful video game practically begs for a film adaptation. That’s why an “Elden Ring” movie is now officially in the works.
Hollywood is a trend-driven industry. For a long time, Westerns were the gold standard, while since the 2000s, comic book adaptations have been the big money-makers. But as these gradually decline, another genre is gaining momentum: video game adaptations. These are not only becoming more frequent but also better and more successful. It’s no surprise, then, that an “Elden Ring” film is now in the works.
“Elden Ring” Film Planned – What We Know So Far
The announcement isn’t surprising, especially since in 2024, Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creative lead of the popular role-playing game, openly discussed the possibility of a film adaptation. This was reported by outlets such as “4P.” At the time, he mentioned that the developer studio FromSoftware lacked the expertise to handle such a project alone, necessitating a strong partner.
As the publisher Bandai Namco has now officially announced, it seems they have found this partner. The company confirms that an “Elden Ring” film is planned and that the well-known indie film studio A24 is on board. A24 has established itself among cinephiles as a consistent source of artistically ambitious, unique, and critically acclaimed titles such as “Hereditary” or “Moonlight.” Many have even won Oscars.

George R. R. Martin Also Involved
Not many details are known at this point. Besides A24, there are some important personnel announcements. It is well known that George R. R. Martin, author of the “Game of Thrones” book series, was responsible for the mythology of the world in “Elden Ring.” According to the announcement, Martin will be involved as a producer in the film adaptation, along with others.
Furthermore, Bandai Namco has confirmed filmmaker Alex Garland as director and screenwriter. Garland has worked on several notable and popular projects like “Ex Machina” and “Annihilation.” With “Civil War” and “Warfare,” he has also demonstrated his ability to stage large-scale action moments. It has also been circulating online that Garland is a big fan of the game, reportedly having played it multiple times.

Fans will surely be watching the project closely from now on.
