Amazon is launching a new generation of its Fire TV Stick 4K. In addition to more power, the Fire TV remote control is also getting several updates.

Amazon is expanding its streaming offerings with a new Fire TV Stick 4K. The model is positioned between the affordable Fire TV Stick HD and the more powerful Fire TV Stick 4K Max. The new stick supports 4K resolution and is designed to bring content to the screen faster than a similarly priced competitor model.

According to Amazon, the Fire TV Stick 4K operates about 20 to 40 percent faster depending on the task. Apps are said to open more than 35 percent quicker, while playback starts about 20 percent sooner. The device also supports Alexa+ and comes in a more compact housing. Thanks to Direct Power, the stick can be powered directly via a USB cable to the TV, reducing the number of cables around the TV set.

Vega gets more and more apps

The operating system is Amazon’s own platform, Vega, which already powers the Fire TV Stick HD. Since its launch, the company claims to have expanded the available offerings by more than 2,000 apps, further increasing the selection of streaming, gaming, and service applications.

New additions include Spotify, Xbox, VLC, and various VPN services. Additionally, well-known platforms like Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, YouTube, HBO Max, and Pluto are available. At the same time, Amazon is streamlining its lineup. In the future, the Fire TV Stick HD, Fire TV Stick 4K, and Fire TV Stick 4K Max will form the three clearly tiered models. The Fire TV Cube remains available as the top model.

New remote was already known in advance

Alongside the streaming stick, Amazon is introducing a revamped Fire TV remote, which was already known through leaks a few days before the official announcement. Its asymmetrical shape combines a flat top with a curved and weighted bottom, making it easier to grip correctly. Additionally, Amazon has designed the buttons to be more tactile.

Both devices are shown against a solid, light beige background. The remote stands slightly angled in front of the streaming stick, partially covering it.

The remote also receives a customizable button, previously reserved for higher-end models. This button can be used to launch favorite apps or activate features like subtitles and screen magnifier. Additionally, the remote continues to control compatible TVs, soundbars, and receivers. The new Fire TV Stick 4K is priced at 74.99 euros and is already available. The new remote can be pre-ordered for 15.99 euros before Amazon ships it at the end of October.
