An aquarium without maintenance sounds appealing to many, but in practice, it often fails due to the high effort required. This is where a new product from China comes in. The manufacturer Dangbei is launching the Smart Fish Tank 2S Ultra, an aquarium that automates many tasks. It is aimed at people who want an aquarium but do not want to take care of it regularly.

Maintenance Effort for Aquariums Often Underestimated

A traditional aquarium requires continuous attention. Fish need to be fed regularly, plants and corals need care, and the water quality must be constantly monitored. This includes water changes and other maintenance tasks. Many underestimate this effort before purchasing. The result: Interest in an aquarium quickly wanes. Dangbei is trying to solve this problem with an automated system.

According to the website “Gizmochina.com,” the Smart Fish Tank 2S Ultra model is available in China and costs approximately 75 euros. The device holds 32 liters of water and uses cameras supported by AI. These automatically detect the type, number, and size of the fish. Based on this data, the aquarium independently adjusts important functions. These include lighting, water flow, sterilization, and feeding. At the same time, the system monitors water quality around the clock and immediately reports any irregularities.

Filter System and Technology for Clean Water

A dual filter system is used for cleaning, separating dry and wet components. The system prevents dirt from spreading in the water. Inside, mineral and biochemical filters clean the water. Optionally, a UV sterilizer can be added to the cleaning process. Additionally, an activated carbon filter with mineral additives can be integrated. This supports beneficial bacteria and removes substances like ammonia and nitrite. Two quiet pumps move the water at a rate of 350 liters per hour, also providing oxygen supply.

The lid contains 45 LEDs, with light tailored to the needs of plants and fish. The lighting can be individually adjusted, such as by simulating daylight. The integrated feeding system holds food for up to 180 days. The container is moisture-protected and dispenses food in two portion sizes. The aquarium can be controlled via a smartphone app over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, even remotely.

It is currently unknown whether the manufacturer offers the device in Germany. A similar concept is already available from Xiaomi. The manufacturer offers an automated aquarium under the name Mijia Smart Fish Tank.
