Amazon is charging significantly more for many of its own devices in the U.S. than before. For some models, the price increase is up to 60 percent. Affected products include the Echo, Kindle, Fire TV, and Eero lines. In Germany, the current prices remain unchanged for now, but the reasons Amazon cites for the increases also apply to devices sold there.
The price hike is particularly noticeable for the Echo Dot. The compact Alexa speaker now costs $79.99 on the official U.S. product pages. Previously, Amazon charged $49.99 for the device. The Echo Show 11 is also more expensive. The smart screen with Alexa will now cost $249.99 instead of $219.99, an increase of about 14 percent.
Higher Prices for Kindle, Fire TV, and Eero Systems
The price increase affects not only Amazon’s smart speakers. Other product categories are also becoming more expensive. For example, the price of the Kindle with 16 gigabytes of storage rises from $109.99 to $149.99. The eReader is intended for reading e-books. Amazon is charging $199.99 for the Kindle Paperwhite, up from $159.99.
The Fire TV Stick HD, which allows streaming services to be used on the TV, will now cost $39.99 instead of $34.99. The price increase is significantly larger for the Fire TV Stick 4K Max, which rises from $59.99 to $84.99, an increase of about 42 percent.
The Eero systems for distributing Wi-Fi signals across multiple rooms or floors are also becoming more expensive. The three-pack of the Eero 7 increases from $349.99 to $399.99. Three devices of the Eero Pro 7 will now cost $799.99 instead of $699.99.

High Storage Costs as the Cause
Ring products like cameras and video doorbells are spared from the current round of price increases. Amazon attributes the hikes to the U.S. magazine “Fortune” to significantly increased costs for RAM and memory chips, which the company had absorbed for as long as possible.
Discount promotions will continue, such as on Prime Day or around Black Friday. For customers in Germany, nothing changes for now, as Amazon has not yet announced any corresponding price increases there. However, since the mentioned components are also used in devices available in Germany, the price wave could eventually reach there.
