Voice assistants often respond similarly. With Alexa+, Amazon wants to change that. The new version of the assistant can adopt different speaking styles, making conversations feel more personalized.
Voice assistants have long been a part of everyday life for many people. They answer questions, play music, or control smart home devices. Despite many new features, the responses of such systems often sounded similar. With Alexa+, Amazon aims to change that. The new version of the voice assistant will soon be able to respond in different speaking styles. This is intended to make responses better suited to users’ preferences. The new version is currently available to the general public in the U.S.
Different Personalities for Alexa
According to Amazon, the basis of the new feature is so-called Personality Styles. The idea behind this is that people communicate differently. Some prefer short and direct answers, while others want a casual or particularly friendly tone. In addition to the well-known Alexa voice, Amazon is introducing three more speaking styles. These differ mainly in how Alexa+ formulates its responses.
One of these variants is called “Brief.” This style is aimed at users who want to receive information as quickly as possible. In this mode, Alexa+ responds particularly concisely, focusing on the essentials. Many details, lengthy explanations, or small talk are largely left out.
The “Chill” style formulates responses more relaxed and somewhat informal. The interaction is meant to feel more like a casual conversation, without losing informational content. The “Sweet” style is even friendlier. In this mode, Alexa+ responds particularly positively and encouragingly. Responses can be more enthusiastic and often include motivational or supportive phrases.

How to Change the Style
Users can switch styles at any time. This can be done either via voice command directly on an Echo device or alternatively through the device settings in the Alexa app. Additionally, the chosen style can be combined with different voices, several of which are available in the app according to Amazon.
However, it is not yet known when the new speaking styles will be available in Germany. Currently, Alexa+ is only running as part of a closed beta test for selected users in Germany.
