Everyone would like to have more money, and many people consciously invest in goods that hopefully increase in value over time. But an air conditioner? No one would have thought of that. However, as it turns out, an old LG air conditioner is more valuable than one might have assumed. Consumers are now on the hunt for it.
LG Brand Whisen Air Conditioner with Gold Logo
According to a report by “The Straits Times,” an old LG air conditioner in South Korea has suddenly become highly sought after. Specifically, it concerns a model from the LG brand Whisen, produced 20 years ago. As influencer and jewelry store owner Ringring Unni revealed in a video, the brand logo on the device is made of pure gold.
The individual letters of Whisen were reportedly attached to the front of the device and were advertised as being made of gold at the time. The model is believed to date back to 2005. The find weighed just under one don (3.75 grams) and brought the owner the equivalent of about 500 euros. Don is a Korean weight measure for gold.
South Koreans Search for LG Air Conditioner
According to the report, Ringring Unni’s video went viral and was viewed more than a million times. It sparked a massive search for existing models in circulation.
One user wrote that his grandmother’s air conditioner was quite old and that he should check its manufacturer. Shortly afterward, another customer came to Ringring Unni’s store, whose discovery she even valued slightly higher.
According to the report, LG adorned 10,000 Whisen air conditioners with a gold logo in 2005. The company wanted to celebrate its then-worldwide market leadership in this product area.
