The trend of closing bank branches continues, and the availability of ATMs is steadily decreasing. Recently, DKB customers also had to face this. Particularly frustrating: DKB’s ATMs allowed cash deposits.
Withdrawing Cash from DKB
This is now reported by sources such as “Börse Online.” According to them, the direct bank has not operated its own ATMs since June 30, 2025. However, the company had already discontinued most of them in 2023, as TECHBOOK was informed. Recently, there were still three ATMs in Berlin and Munich. This places DKB in line with the current trend of nationwide declining ATMs.
DKB explains that the operation simply incurred too high costs. At the same time, there is a steady decline in cash withdrawals or deposits at DKB. There was no widespread information about this, and a TECHBOOK editorial contact was surprised by it. Hauke Kramm, the bank’s spokesperson, says:
“Our customers at the remaining three ATMs were kindly informed several weeks in advance with a notice about the upcoming removal. Due to limited customer demand, we consciously chose location-based information and decided against informing all 5.8 million customers.”

Depositing and Withdrawing Cash at DKB
Since the density of in-house ATMs was not very high anyway, most customers have likely already turned to alternative ways to obtain cash from DKB. Even now, you can still get up to 200 euros at many partner retailers such as ALDI (North and South), DM, Netto, Rossmann, or Müller. With a Visa debit or credit card, DKB customers can withdraw cash worldwide for free, provided they have active status. The amount must be between 50 and 1,000 euros.
The unique feature of the old DKB ATMs was that you could always deposit cash there. Now, customers must visit a Reisebank branch for this. Previously, this was also possible in-store–and this option is expected to return soon. In response to a TECHBOOK inquiry, Kramm reveals:
“Soon, Cash in the Shop will also be available again as a convenient deposit option while shopping–we will proactively inform customers about the start date.”

Customers will definitely be informed this time.
