Just before the legally mandated deadline, ING is enabling its banking app for real-time transfers. The service is now available to all customers free of charge.
On September 9, ING released the app version 8.36.1 for iOS, and according to the bank, the Android update is being rolled out gradually. One notable feature in the list of updates is: “Send and receive money in seconds with real-time transfers.” Bank customers can now transfer funds to another account in no more than ten seconds. ING is thus implementing a legal requirement ahead of the October 2025 deadline.
ING Implements Legal Requirement for Real-Time Transfers
The feature is available for all ING checking accounts, regardless of the day or time, including online banking via browser. Real-time transfers are free and can be conducted up to a daily limit of 10,000 euros. This limit can be adjusted individually but is set at 2,000 euros by default. Users simply need to check the appropriate box during the transfer to execute the transaction in real time.
Starting October 9, 2025, all banks in the eurozone are required to both receive and execute real-time transfers at the price of standard SEPA transfers. Since these are typically free, no additional fees may be charged for instant payments.

Since April 2022, ING customers have been able to receive real-time transfers. Since April 2024, sending such payments was only possible for users of the “Girokonto Future.” With the current change, ING is now fulfilling the legal requirement early.
New Security Check Starting October
To protect against fraud, the so-called IBAN name check will also be mandatory starting October 9, 2025. The bank will automatically verify whether the recipient’s name and IBAN match. If there are discrepancies, the user will receive a warning, but the transfer can still be completed—at their own risk.
In addition to real-time transfers, ING is also working on other features. A proprietary credit card is set to be introduced in 2026. Additionally, Wero will offer an alternative transfer method, albeit with a significantly lower daily limit of 500 euros.
