In May, ING updated its banking app twice, bringing noticeable improvements. One new feature is likely to please many customers who regularly transfer money abroad.
The latest version of the ING banking app now allows direct international transfers via smartphone for the first time. Previously, this was only possible through the web interface. With version 8.20.1, customers can now conveniently make international payments via smartphone. The bank has already announced further updates with additional features but remains tight-lipped about the details.
International Transfers Now Available via ING App
With the latest update to version 8.20.1 of the ING app, customers can now conduct international transfers directly on mobile. Previously, this feature was only available in the browser. According to ING, this step has long been requested by customers. The app is available for free in both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
International transfers require additional information depending on the destination country, such as the recipient’s name and address, the international account number, and the BIC of the recipient’s bank. Users must also specify the currency and a purpose for the transfer. For transfers outside the European Economic Area, such as to the U.S., several banking days should be expected.
Earlier Updates in May
At the beginning of May, the app was expanded with version 8.18.0. Since then, users have received an overview of dividend developments in the securities details. Additionally, extra features can be accessed more quickly via the “More” menu item in the transaction list.

ING emphasizes particularly easy and secure handling of its app. The application is secured by a combination of device PIN and mobile PIN. In case of device loss, the app can be reset remotely. According to the bank, data usage is kept to a minimum. Cryptographic methods and device binding are used to prevent tampering and unauthorized access.
