Online banking generally poses no major challenges for experienced users. The apps from financial institutions allow for the easy handling of usual banking transactions on a verified device like a mobile phone or tablet. However, when this device is replaced with a new one, you need to take some action. TECHBOOK explains the appropriate steps, in this case for DKB customers.

DKB has made several adjustments to its banking app in recent years. In 2023, a new version was released; it initially ran parallel to the existing banking app of the direct bank. In June of the same year, an update added missing features. However, even the most satisfied users may find it slightly inconvenient when they want to continue online banking on a new device as usual.

New Phone and Online Banking – How DKB Customers Proceed

Just as they did with their previous device, DKB customers must first install the app on their new phone (or tablet). To do this, visit the official app store appropriate for the operating system (Apple’s App Store or the Google Play Store) and download the relevant application. The next steps may vary depending on whether you a) keep your old mobile phone number or not and b) still have your old device/it is still functional. TECHBOOK addresses the different scenarios.

Using the App on a New Device with a New Phone Number

If you still have the old phone and the DKB app for online banking is installed on it, it will now come into play. The new phone number should be stored in it. If the device is no longer available or the app has already been uninstalled, you will receive the necessary access data according to the quick guide on the DKB website with an “informal, signed request.” The application must include the user’s new phone and account numbers, among other things.

Finally, there is also the option to log in to ib.dkb.de and confirm the new registration in the app with a TAN. “Afterward, you can store your new phone number under ‘Service > Overview: current data,'” the website further states.

Online Banking on a New Device with an Old Phone Number

Continuing online banking is even faster if the new phone does not also mean a new phone number. “Install the DKB app on your new device. It will automatically be set up as a new device,” the bank explains on its website. In the next step, the application should be uninstalled from the old smartphone, and the device should be removed from the linked devices.

Setting Up the DKB Online Banking App

If the phone number is current, you can get started. When opening the DKB banking app, you will be prompted to set a new eight-digit password. Then you will see the options “Scan QR Code” and “Relink TAN2go.” In your case–you have used the app before–the second option is the right one. A button labeled “To Internet Banking” should now appear on the screen.

Activation Code is Important

Next, it depends on whether you still have your previously used device. The following TAN query to confirm your registration takes place in the app on the previously used and already verified device. Under the “Service” menu, go to “TAN Procedures” to “Overview: Manage TAN Procedures” and then to “Manage TAN2go Procedures.” You have now reached the point “Switch Device.”

Then, request a QR code via the “Relink by Mail” option. You may already be familiar with such a letter from your initial registration for DKB online banking. The included (activation) code–or the TAN hidden behind it–is needed to finally register your new device and thus also use it for online banking with DKB.
