Is the storage crisis affecting Apple more than previously expected? In early April, it became apparent that the company was experiencing delivery issues with Mac Studio and Mac mini models featuring higher RAM configurations. The situation has only worsened since then. Currently, certain versions are not available at all.

Cheapest Mac No Longer Available

As reported by TECHBOOK, certain versions of the Mac mini and Mac Studio already had delivery times of up to five months. Apple manufactures devices with upgrades only upon order, so the timeframe heavily depends on component availability. Apparently, Apple’s RAM supplies are also limited, which means upgrades are currently not possible.

Until now, standard configurations were still available for order through the Apple Store. However, even the cheapest Mac mini with an M4 chip is no longer available—whether with 16, 24, or 32 GB RAM. The version with M4 Pro and 64 GB RAM is also affected by the shortages.

The Mac Studio is also unavailable in several versions. Both the variant with M4 Max and 128 GB RAM and the one with M3 Ultra and 256 GB RAM show a delivery date of “Currently unavailable,” and the “Continue” button is not clickable.

Other Models with Long Delivery Times

Buyers of the still available versions of the Mac mini and Mac Studio must continue to expect longer delivery times. Depending on RAM or mass storage configurations, wait times of several weeks to three months are indicated.

Also interesting: RAM crisis continues—are MacBooks getting more expensive now?

The base model of the Mac Studio with M4 Max and 36 GB RAM, for example, is not deliverable until the end of May. Even the cheapest Mac mini model with M4 and 16 GB RAM will be available again only at the beginning of May.

Preparation for New Devices?

The status “currently unavailable” often indicates that a product is being removed from the configurator. A similar case occurred in March with the 512 GB RAM version of the Mac Studio.

It is unclear whether the industry-wide shortages of RAM and NAND memory chips are solely responsible for the poor availability. Apple may be deliberately restricting sales to prepare for refreshed Mac mini and Mac Studio models with M5 chips. The presentation at the keynote kicking off the WWDC26 developer conference in early May was still considered quite certain. Apple often introduces new devices alongside software updates there.

However, Bloomberg reported that at least the successor to the Mac Studio might not appear until the end of the year. The planned MacBook Ultra with M6 chip and touchscreen is also expected to be delayed from 2026 to 2027. Bloomberg cites delivery issues with memory chips as the reason.
