SanDisk is making a clear cut in its SSD portfolio. The manufacturer is introducing a new, unified brand structure. Consumers should expect some name changes.
At CES 2026, SanDisk revealed its goal to make its offerings more straightforward and to emphasize its core brand. Instead of several historically developed series, there will be a clearly structured product family. The technology itself will initially change little—the existing models will be reclassified and continued under the new SanDisk Optimus umbrella.
Clear Separation by Application Area
SanDisk divides the new Optimus series into three performance classes. The basic line is primarily aimed at creatives and everyday users looking for a reliable SSD with a good price-performance ratio. Previous WD-Blue models, such as the SN5100 NVMe SSD, can be found here.
Above that, SanDisk positions the Optimus-GX series. This is specifically targeted at gamers and performance-oriented systems. In this class, the previous WD_BLACK models, including the SN7100 NVMe SSD, are incorporated.
The highest tier is the Optimus-GX-PRO line. It is designed to deliver maximum performance for workstations, development environments, and modern AI computers. Here too, the technical foundations come from the previous WD_BLACK portfolio, including the former SN8100 NVMe SSD.
New Look, Later Market Launch
Alongside the renaming, Sandisk is also updating the external appearance. Packaging and design are intended to look more modern and clearly convey the affiliation with the Optimus family. The transition will occur gradually, with the first models featuring the new branding expected to appear in stores in the first half of 2026, according to the report.
For buyers, this means one thing above all: Those looking for internal Sandisk SSDs in the future will no longer find the familiar WD color codes. Instead, the Optimus designation will determine whether an SSD is intended for everyday use, gaming, or professional applications.
