In 2021, Apple introduced the current MacBook Pro design, so the time is ripe for a refresh. According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, this is expected to happen by the end of 2026 or early 2027. However, initially, only the planned models with OLED displays will appear in a new design.
New Design, OLED and Touch
As TECHBOOK has already reported, new MacBook Pro models with M6 Pro and M6 Max are expected to hit the market by the end of 2026 or early 2027. For the first time in a MacBook, these devices could feature an OLED screen that also includes a touchscreen.
Along with these changes, Apple is likely planning a new, slimmer design, as reported by Bloomberg. Mark Gurman even describes the new design as “revolutionary”–at least compared to the MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max, which are expected to appear in early 2026 and likely won’t bring many changes beyond increased performance.
Entry-Level MacBook Pro Remains Behind for Now
Apple differentiates its MacBook Pro portfolio between high-end models with the more powerful Pro and Max chips of the M series and the entry-level model with the standard M chip. The company has followed this strategy since the introduction of the M series in 2020. At that time, the MacBook Pro 13-inch with Touch Bar was first released with an M1. It wasn’t until 2021 that the 14- and 16-inch variants followed, featuring stronger chips (M1 Pro and M1 Max) and a completely redesigned case with more space for the battery and more connectivity options. In 2023, Apple replaced the 13-inch variant of the MacBook Pro with a 14-inch model with M3, which came with the same case as the existing 14- and 16-inch variants.
In October 2025, Apple first equipped the more affordable 14-inch model with M5. The MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max are expected to follow in 2026. By the end of 2026, the 14-inch variant is likely to be the first to receive the M6–but with an unchanged case, without OLED, and without a touchscreen. These innovations will thus remain reserved for the high-end models with M6 Pro and M6 Max for now.
