WhatsApp has announced a slew of new features and is working on more. The status section of the messenger is undergoing a major overhaul. Additionally, a practical logout function for smartphones is expected soon.
In its official blog, WhatsApp has provided a preview of upcoming new features. They can currently be tested via the beta version and will soon be available in the official release. The update introduces collages, music, and interactive stickers for more expressive options in status updates. Additionally, a new logout button will make signing out of WhatsApp easier.
Creative Enhancements for WhatsApp Status
WhatsApp updates have increasingly focused on the status feature for some time now. The company continues to expand it, gradually aligning it with traditional social media platforms. In status updates, users can share photos, videos, GIFs, or even voice messages with their contacts for 24 hours–similar to Instagram Stories. Such posts can be commented on with emojis or personal messages.
As Meta announced in the WhatsApp blog, additional status features will be added soon. Several tools are planned to enhance creative expression, including an expanded collage function that allows up to six images to be arranged individually.
Users will soon be able to integrate music tracks directly into their status updates or use music stickers. Personal photos can also be transformed into editable stickers that can be resized and reshaped.
Interaction with Other Users
Also new is the “Add Yours” feature, which invites users to interact with their contacts. When they respond, their reply is published in their own status–creating a dialogue in status format. According to WhatsApp, this new feature will be gradually rolled out to all users in the coming months, along with the collages, music function, and photo stickers.
WhatsApp is also currently testing a sharing function for status updates. With this, users–if permitted by the creator–can forward status content to other contacts or groups. Phone numbers remain anonymous, and the original author is notified of the forwarding.

New Logout Function in Development for WhatsApp
A new logout button has not yet been officially announced, but the colleagues at “AndroidAuthority” discovered it in the current beta version 2.25.17.37. Until now, Android users had to delete app data or iOS users had to uninstall the app to log out. The logout button is intended to simplify this cumbersome logout process from WhatsApp. The new function appears in the account settings below the “Delete Account” option and offers two variants: either all data and settings are retained, or they can be completely deleted.
The “Keep All Data and Settings” option allows users to temporarily log out of WhatsApp–for example, to switch accounts or temporarily not use the messenger. All chat data and group memberships remain intact.
The “Delete All Data and Settings” option, on the other hand, corresponds to a complete logout including data deletion. The button currently still bears the note “[Internal],” indicating its internal development status. It is still unclear if and when the function will be publicly available.
Rollout of New Features Occurs Gradually
A specific timeline for the introduction of the new features is still pending. While the logout function and sharing of status updates are still in the beta phase, WhatsApp is already gradually rolling out the creative status features. Users should regularly check their app for updates to access the new tools.
