With watchOS 27, the Apple Watch gains new features, but some familiar options will also disappear. Longtime users, in particular, may need to adjust in several areas after the update.
The End of an Unusual Communication Feature
Apple is saying goodbye to several features with watchOS 27, reports “9to5mac.” This includes the Walkie-Talkie app, which allowed direct voice communication between two Apple Watches. Although it was never among the most-used features of the smartwatch, it had built a loyal following over the years.
For these users, the update represents a noticeable cut. Apple does not currently offer a direct replacement. While third-party developers might create similar solutions in the future, the specific integration of the Walkie-Talkie feature into the Apple ecosystem will be hard to replicate fully. For fans of the feature, a piece of Apple Watch history is disappearing.

Less Convenience in Operation
Another change affects control via the Digital Crown. Until now, users could quickly switch between recently used apps with a double-click on the crown. This multitasking feature is being removed with watchOS 27.
In the future, a double-click will essentially trigger the same action as a single press. This means losing one of the fastest ways to switch between apps or from the watch face to an app. Experienced users who use the Apple Watch intensively in daily life might notice this loss. Whether Apple will introduce a new quick access feature in the future is currently unknown.
New App View Instead of Direct Access
The display of installed applications will also be fundamentally changed. Previously, pressing the Digital Crown took users directly to the full app overview. Apple is now replacing this behavior with a new dynamic start view.
Instead of showing all installed apps, the watch initially displays a selection of recommended apps, the Siri app, and an additional switch for the full app list. Apple is focusing on larger controls and an easier entry for less experienced users. However, those who frequently and specifically work with many apps will have to take an additional step in the future. This change may not be welcomed by all Apple Watch owners.
