Meta plans to significantly expand its activities around artificial intelligence and wearables. Following the initial AI glasses, the company is reportedly already working on additional devices. A leaked internal memo suggests that the product strategy will be much broader in the future. In addition to new hardware, paid AI services will also play an important role.
Focus on New AI Glasses
According to the memo reported by “The Information,” Meta plans to release several new glasses models in the coming years. By June 2026, the AI glasses with the codename “Modelo” are expected to be launched. In the fall, two more variants, “Luna” and “RBM2 Refresh,” could follow. Additionally, the “Mojito VIP” model is apparently planned for the end of the year.
Meta is also testing other prototypes, including devices “Artemis” and “SSG.” “Artemis” is considered a potential candidate for the company’s first true AR glasses. The “SSG” model is said to continuously capture and analyze the environment. Furthermore, a limited form of facial recognition is reportedly planned.
AI Pendant in Development
Meta is not only working on new products in the glasses sector. According to the report, an AI pendant is also undergoing internal tests. The device could be unveiled as early as 2027.
So far, only a few details are known. There are hints of an integrated camera, but no further technical or design details have been mentioned. The backstory is interesting: Meta acquired the startup Limitless in 2025, which was also working on an AI pendant. This expertise may now be contributing to the current project.

Reality Labs Under Pressure
Economic pressure is apparently also behind these plans. Meta’s Reality Labs division, responsible for smart glasses, VR headsets, and related software, has been recording losses in the tens of billions for years.
Despite significant investments, the company has yet to achieve a decisive breakthrough in the market for VR devices and wearables. As a result, Meta is realigning its strategy. AI glasses are set to play a central role as a platform for AI assistants in the future.

The company has set ambitious goals for the second half of the year. According to the internal memo, around ten million devices are to be sold. Last year, sales of AI glasses totaled about seven million units. Growth is expected to be driven by additional models and new markets.
Meta Focuses on AI Subscriptions
In addition to the hardware business, Meta aims to earn more from software in the future. Paid AI offerings will play an important role in this.
In the memo, Alex Himel, Meta’s Vice President of Wearables, writes: “To build a sustainable business that doesn’t rely solely on hardware margins, we need to monetize the software services that set our devices apart from the competition.”
The company is betting that more users will use its AI models and regularly pay for related services. By the end of the year, Meta aims for 6.8 million monthly active users of its wearables, according to the memo.
