For Apple’s product launch in September, a new generation of Apple Watch is expected once again. It would officially be the 10th for the base series, making it an anniversary edition. Therefore, expectations for the upcoming Apple Watch 10/X are high–but they seem to be disappointed.
As the September Apple Keynote approaches, rumors and leaks about the new products are increasing. One of them is the Apple Watch Series 10–or X, if Apple follows the iPhone naming convention. According to the well-informed Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple will also introduce an SE and an Ultra model again. However, the base series is expected to be the focus and undergo a significant design change. But this might remain just a rumor–TECHBOOK explains the details.
New Design for the Apple Watch 10/X?
According to Gurman, the Apple Watch Series 10/X is expected to be slimmer or thinner than the current model, the Series 9. This would mark a new direction for the company, as the form factor of the product line has changed little so far. Instead, a design similar to the Watch Ultra might be possible. The larger display is particularly interesting in this context, as it opens up new functional possibilities.
A larger display for the upcoming Apple Watch was also mentioned in June. The well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo brought up the sizes 45 mm and 49 mm. This would mean the smaller version for narrower wrists with 41 mm would be completely eliminated.
Few New Features in Sight
There has also been talk in the background that Apple wants to develop some new features for the anniversary edition of the smartwatch. This mainly involves the ability to measure blood pressure and potentially detect hypertension. Non-invasive blood sugar monitoring and sleep apnea detection are also being discussed. However, contrary to expectations, all these functions are unlikely to come with the Apple Watch 10/X in fall 2024.
Reports indicate that progress has been made in development. However, problems have now arisen. Legal issues also play a role, such as with sleep apnea, because measuring blood oxygen is required. This feature was widely deactivated in the U.S. due to a patent dispute, as TECHBOOK reported.
And Apple’s recently introduced artificial intelligence, Apple AI, is also not expected to come to the Apple Watch 10/X, Gurman writes in his newsletter. A rollout for smartwatches may not be planned at all.
