Anyone juggling numerous appointments will appreciate a well-organized calendar. A visual aid can be helpful when you color-code your calendar entries. Until now, Google Calendar has been somewhat limited in this area, but that’s changing.
As Google officially announces on its website, the calendar will soon be enhanced with a small and rather hidden extension. This involves additional colors that can be selected for appointments.
Significantly More Colors for Appointments
This change replaces the previous limitation of 11 preset appointment colors in the calendar. In the future, users will have access to a much larger selection, allowing them to customize their calendar entries more individually.
Up to 200 colors are available for individual appointments. These colors help structure appointments and reminders more clearly and make them easier to distinguish visually. The feature is available in both the web and mobile applications, as well as through the Calendar API.

RGB Color Picker for Custom Color Adjustment
When creating appointments, users initially see 24 standard colors. However, with an additional selection window, more colors can be chosen via an RGB color space. In the web version of Google Calendar, users can set additional shades themselves. In the mobile app, only the 24 standard colors are available, as the RGB tool is not offered there.
Google describes the extension as a response to a long-standing request from private and business users for more customization options in appointment management.

Introduction of New Calendar Colors Begins Gradually
The new colors are enabled by default in Google Calendar. The introduction of the new option will occur gradually throughout June.
The update is available for all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with private Google accounts. The extension is part of several recent updates to Google Calendar, including the ability to plan personal tasks and an AI feature to determine suitable times for participants.
