For numerous Xiaomi smartphones, updates will end with Android 15 and HyperOS 3. Users of these devices will have to forgo new Android versions in the future–with noticeable consequences.

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has announced the end of updates for a total of 31 smartphones from the Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco brands. The respective models will receive their last Android update in September 2025. With Android 15 and the new HyperOS 3 interface, that’s the end. Android 16 will no longer be offered for these devices. This measure also affects models that were only recently released.

These Xiaomi Models Will No Longer Receive Android 16

The following smartphones are affected by the update discontinuation:

The mentioned devices will receive a final major software package with Android 15 and HyperOS 3 in fall 2025. The focus is on a redesigned look that strongly resembles Apple’s “Liquid-Glass” design. Additionally, Xiaomi is making adjustments to the control center and introducing minor improvements for a modern user interface. Nevertheless, the manufacturer remains true to its previous update strategy–even relatively new devices are dropped from support early, such as the Redmi Note 13, released in early 2024.

Less Security and Compatibility for Users

The decision means a loss of future security for users of the affected smartphones. While the devices remain usable, the lack of updates increases the long-term risk of security vulnerabilities and app compatibility issues. New features or improvements from future Android versions will no longer be available.
